Appearance: Lindsey likes to think he’s pretty. Wait. He knows he’s pretty. Decently tall for a man at 5’11”and weighing in at a slender 176lbs. Like the rest of his species, Lindsey is very pale, bordering on the white of the moonlight, with dark chocolate hair and large deep brown eyes. His skin is very smooth, the waters of the ocean exfoliating it for his 18 years of life or having it sheltered under his sealskin. He has suffered various nicks and scars from his run ins with fishermen and sealers, the most noticeable being a long scar between his shoulder blades, leaning towards the left side, where he was injured by a harthingy, which he almost barely avoided in his seal form. Thus, the sealskin, which he dons, has a similar cut where no fur will grow, which is the only identifiable mark that connects him to his seal persona.
As for his attire, he wears simple t-shirt and torn, tattered jeans. He is very aware of his appearance and takes extra care in making sure his jeans are torn enough to be ‘in fashion’ and his t-shirts unwrinkled. Due to the amount of time he spends in the sea, Lindsey has a very limited wardrobe, but his adeptness at finding treasures under the sea has amassed him a very large collection of real pearls and coins, which he trades in town for food and clothing. Lindsey is one of those people who can wake up beautiful, though he spends an inordinate amount of time to make himself prettier, occasionally (and secretly) dabbling in some of the womenfolk’s makeup to admire their effects.
Silly Selkie.
Personality: To say Lindsey is a troublemaker is an understatement. While he does at times have common sense and is able to logic things out, more often than not he lets his impulses control his actions. He is frequently loud and passionate, often the “ringleader” of Selkie games, such as tipping a fishing boat or sabotaging of a sealer mission.
Lindsey is very reckless and impulsive most times, though he can conjure up compassion and civility should the situation call for it. He is not insensitive, and he acts better around those not of his species. Lindsey is also very narcissistic, quite enamored by his looks and knowing well enough how to use them to get his way, especially with women. He enjoys sex and enjoys the chase nearly as much. Although in public he can be loud, annoying, rambunctious, and troublemaking (with the right crowd), in private he is much more subdued. When alone or with people he knows very well, Lindsey is actually rather quiet and quite pensive. He enjoys looking at photography books and is enamored with cameras and technology. Having grown up in the ocean, he never had access to such things until his childhood friend Brendon, who was unable to swim due to an accident and thus had to remain on land, introduced him to the technology.
Lindsey is quite enamored with humans, finding them fascinating and interesting. He associates better with humans than elves, being able to relate to humans due to his mortality and his propensity for finding trouble. Elves tend to be more annoyed by Selkies in general, though Lindsey does behave better around Elves, unless they upset him in some manner, when he finds it due time to play a practical joke.
Likes: Lindsey loves picture books. Especially photographs of the sea and seals. He can stare for hours at a time at the photographs, mesmerized by their ability to capture life. He is also very fond of anything shiny, often picking up things that are shiny and hiding them away like a magpie. He has an entire chest full of jewels, gems, coins and pearls, but also things like tin foil, gold teeth, and shiny pebbles. Although he does have an idea of what is valuable and what is not (mostly trial and error trying to barter for things in the costal towns), he still retains anything shiny, despite its lack of value. He also enjoys any sort of seafood, often eating fish, oysters and clams raw instead of cooking them.
Dislikes: Lindsey is very, very superstitious, like most sheltered magical folk. He dislikes having his picture taken (by anyone other than someone he knows well who will NOT steal his soul), walking under ladders, spilling salt, black cats, witches and other… pointless superstitions. It goes without saying; he despises sealers and fisherman (unless they give him fish to keep him placid).
Magic Capabilities: Like most Selkies, Lindsey is deeply connected to the sea and can sense approaching storms with the accuracy of any weather predicting devices. However, unlike most Selkies, Lindsey has a stronger control over the element. Although he is normally too preoccupied with his looks to use his skills, or at times even forgets he has them, Lindsey can to some extent control the weather. Although he cannot call up a hurricane or stop one, he can, with some effort, ease the effects. He has used this at times to benefit his Selkie group, being the son of the leader of their band of Selkies, who is known to be very powerful (as far as the seal folk go).
Personal and Family History: Lindsey was born shortly before the start of summer, in 1986 to the Chief of the Selkie troupe that resides off the Loop Head Peninsula. He started out life normally, remaining in seal form until he turned the age of 8, where he was taught how to undo the magical binds and walk about as a human until the care of his mother or tribesmen. He grew up on the beaches, suffering little to no harm from humans despite the sealers and fisherman. Selkies are resourceful creatures, and their human intellect keeps them mostly out of danger.
It was proven, however, at a very early age, that Lindsey was trouble. At the age of 9, with the help of several of his older friends, Lindsey led a Selkie troupe into the nearby beach town, leading away several children from their mothers while they were not looking. They led the children out to an outcropping which soon turned into an island with the rising tide, leaving the frightened children stranded for the most part. Although it was funny for Lindsey at the time, he was severely chastised and the children were all returned to their families by the Chieftain.
This trend continued, involving several pranks on the townsfolk (such as moving every single boat in the marina into different boat slots, or removing the propeller blades from every single boat) or the resident magical creatures.
When he was 14, he led his Selkie posse out on a dangerous escapade, which ended in disaster. During their mission to topple sealer ships, Lindsey’s best friend, Brendon, was badly injured, almost nearly dying due to his mission. From that moment, Lindsey became more docile and releasing his urge to trick in more benign methods, though he will not shirk a good fistfight with a sealer (despite the fact he always loses). He remained in contact with Brendon, though his friend was unable to return to the sea due to the extensive injuries from the propeller blades.
Brendon, however, did not blame Lindsey no matter how much he blamed himself. Due to Brendon’s recovery on land, Lindsey learned much about human culture and technology, finding himself spending less and less time in the sea, and more and more on land with his best friend. The human world fascinated him much more than the daily monotony of the sea life.
With much trepidation and a lot of coaxing and help from Brendon, Lindsey decided to leave the sea behind and try his legs out on land, venturing where Selkies hardly dare go and for such a long period of time. But Lindsey figures, hey, if Brendon can do it, what is stopping me?
