Character Profile
Character Common Name: Sentralia de Triumph (Vooheheve Blackbird)
Species: Human
Gender: Female
Age (human equivalent): 21
Position in School: Sophmore Student
Appearance: Sentralia is a fine 5'6" for all that one notices. She has long straight black hair that falls past her hips, but is usually braided or pulled away from her face and deep brown eyes. Her lips are fuller at the bottom then the top. She has a neat oval face, with high cheek bones, though her nose comes from her father and fits her features well. She is a rather garden variety half-Native American female. Her breasts are large, and make her appear curvy, though she often hides this with tightly bound clothing across her chest, giving her a more boyish appearance. There is a cluster of freckles on her left shoulder which make the dipper constellation, a few scars on her knees from being an overactive child. When she goes to class, she wears tweed suits. Outside of classes, she normally wears jeans or long skirts. Shirts vary in style and cut, but most are long sleeved in good fabrics. In most cases she appears quiet and thoughtful, a book in one hand, and wearing a small pair of reading glasses.
Personality: On the surface, Sentra (As she is usually nicknamed) is an intelligent, thoughtful young woman. However, her carefully maintained face is a fraud. Back in the states, she was a hellish little girl and a bitchy teenager. Being away from the stranglehold of her French father and Northern Cheyenne mother has calmed her down quite a bit. Sentralia dislikes speaking about her family, unless the person she is talking to is very close to her, the only one she talks to about the goings on in her family is her brother. She was very popular in her hometown, for the most part, being intelligent and bright with the teachers, the 'It' girl with her classmates (which was a very small class, only about 150 students) She picked on people that were bigger then her, fought with 'purebred' children, and was generally a strange savior to alot of students. There were families that refused to allow their children to play with the de Triumph children as they were half-bred. This started to develop her dislike for racists, and she was sure to point out that she was only 'half-french' as though that was what was wrong with her. She's adept with technology, and has a laptop computer as well as a neat little blue cell phone.
When she does lose her temper, it is in private, usually out in the woods. There she often performs a butterfly dance with a blue and silver embroidered shawl, spinning and stepping to the beat of her own. The reason is explained in her history below.
Likes: Peace and quiet, fry bread with powdered sugar, corn bread and collard greens, creole cooking (she often complains of a lack of such in Ireland), okra, thick dusty books, Men (never boys), most music that has an ounce of musicality in it, Frank Sinatra and the Beatles.
Dislikes: People that use heavy slang, accents that make no sense, people who feel superior for one reason or another. Meals that rely on meat for flavor instead of spices and sides, MTV, people that fluant their social status. She has a fear of cockroaches that stems from her brother dumping a box of the critters on her when they were children.
Magic Capabilities: She has an affinity for healing, which seems to run in the females of her family. She learned from her grandmother Vooheheva'e (Morning Star Woman, from which Sentralia takes her name of Vooheheve, or Morning Star). Vooheheva'e taught her to focus her own Spirit powers, as well as showing her herbs and prayers that would work through her own budding power. When she treats someone, they often suffer little ill affects. She rarely uses the gift, unwilling to point out her use of magic, and even less willing to show it to strangers. She doesn't want to be laughed at.
]Personal and Family History: As stated perivously, Sentra is a half-French, half-nothern Cheyenne (it bothers her to use the phrase 'Native American' and she hates it when people say things like "injun" or "Indian") born to a pair of lovers not expecting her. Her parents marriage is loveless, her father (Roi de Triumph) a banker, and her mother (Anna "Havêsevevoona'o"literally 'Bad Morning' Blackbird) a housewife. She has a brother who is a year and 11 days younger then her. They look so alike in appearance, they are often called 'Irish Twins'. Sentralia had seizures from the time she was 11 months old, and when she was nineteen, they stopped suddenly, she believes that she grew out of them, but still keeps her dilantin and phenobarbital on hand.
Sentralia was a bratty little girl, wanting attention from her otherwise negligent parents. She was well taken care of, mostly by her many Aunts, both French and Cheyenne. Her family was not wealthy on her mother's side, and often times she would spend time with her Néške'e (grandmother) who was also the shamaness of the tribe. It was her grandmother that taught her how to apply herself, taught her the tradtional dances & slowly pulled Sentralia away from her bratty personality. When she was apart from Néške'e, Sentralia was whiny and mean. This prompted her parents to keep her with the old woman for a good part of her childhood. It was one of the ways that Sentralia would use to maniplulate her parents to pay attention to her, even if she was getting a punishment. Her Father and mother lived away from the Reservation in Lame Deer, but her mother's family lived there.
Sadly, the year that Sentralia left for Esras her grandmother died at 81. It was her grandmother's wish that she represent the Tribe as well as her own Clan. The shock of her grandmother's death hasn't quite left her, and she straightened up immediately upon setting foot in Ireland. She was far less boisterous or complaining, and quickly formed up a new way of thinking. She adopted her grandmother's quite, almost-zen like patience. This is why she tries hard not to lose her temper. The butterfly dance ( a dance in which the dancer never goes backwards, but always forward. It symbolizes the life of a butterfly and is one of the most lovely and graceful dances in any Native American girl's repoitre) is her way of honoring, and asking forgiveness from, her grandmother.
Sentralia's brother, Dean (Ho'neohnestoohe [Howling Wolf] Blackbird), is 20. When they were younger, he often tagged behind her, a vertiable shadow. They got along well for siblings, and as they got older it was shown that Dean would still follow her orders, whispered in Cheyenne. They spent their time together with their grandmother and Cheyenne aunts, Dean learning to throw fits as Sentralia did when they were taken to their French Aunts' homes. When they were teenagers, they settled down a little bit and eventually learned to speak French. Not for any cultural benefit, but to find out what their Grandmere was saying about the two. Their French has a slight Canadian accent to it, as the de Triumph family is from Quebec.
She had a brilliant mind, and her grades showed such. She wanted to leave her tiny Montana town as quickly as possible, and applied to Esras University, along with a number of others. Her Grandmere paid for the schooling, hoping to get the girl away from the family so they would suffer no more from her son's little mistake. She was accepted and spent a good amount of time in happy obscurity. Sentra can speak both French and Northern Cheyenne. She's Majoring in History and Minoring in Music, so that she can better copy down those of her people
