Character Common Name: Connla Boadag
-If Elven (or other race), Real Name: Simply Connla, the fairies of his particular race have no need for other names
Species: Fairy
Gender: Male
Age (human equivalent): 18
Age (for non-humans): 536
Position in School: "Sophmore" for all intents and purposes
Appearance: Connla is a product of his Irish environment. He's fair skinned, with a small spray of freckles over his cheeks. Atop his head is a curly mess of auburn hair, framing bright and mischievious hazel eyes. His face is what they call a "baby face" with full rosy cheeks and a thin turned up nose. He's slender, with the slightest muscle definition weighing in at... at negilible amount of ounces. In fact, he's only three and a half inches tall. Small wings, similar to those of a dragonfly, clear and long, sprount from his back, as he is indeed a fairy. While looking delicate, these wings are actually quite durable, for both transportation and weathering.
Connla is not fond of shirts, and when forced to wear one (if he bothers even then), he opts for something tight and on the side of revealing. He loves tight clothing, especially leather pants. Somewhat of a fashion whore, he'll always be sure to have shoes to match. Connla has found himself fond of the current human styles, and he often emulates the latest fashion trends. He'll even experiment with makeup if the mood strikes him.
Personality: Connla is horribly self-absorbed. Everything in his little (pun intended) world revolves around himself. He finds himself incredibly attractive only loathing his size because it inhibits him from displaying his beauty to the entire world. But for now, the glory of journal icons has seemed to satiate his need for being seen. Small brains make for small minds, as they say and Connla is by far one of the ditziest. Part of the reason he obsesses over himself so much is that it's the only thing he can focus on for any length of time. So, his days are spent stealthily flitting about, taking the occasional paust to admire himself Narcissus style. Fortunately his attention span will give way, and he soon will wander off in search of lighthearted amusement.
Always the curious fairy, he'll poke his head into any and everything, from classrooms to private meetings. With no regard for rules or space, Connla tends to get in trouble with the various mystical species' that know of his existence. However, he finds himself to be the epitome of wonder and will ah... forgive his own transgressions FOR those other people he's offended.
Connla is quite fond of humans, for with them comes more arrays of clothing and manners in which he can debut his beauty, charm, and oh so glorious wit to the world. While his opinions of himself in those areas are high, Connla does have a decent grasp of his strengths. He, like most fairies, is incredibly clever when he tries, and also quite witty. Again though, like most fairies, his attention span is quite in the deficit. But Connla knows this, and will avoid deep thinking and intellectual stimulation as much as possible, not because he thinks he can't handle it... but because well it's SUCH a waste of time, and so icky, that studying thing.
Likes: fashion, showing off, flying, dancing around with fellow fairies, makeup, mirrors, causing a good bit of entertaining mischief, leather pants, butterflies, colorful plants, cameras, people, computers, and spider webs after a fresh rain
Dislikes: the spiders IN those webs, fly swatters, bug spray, sudden storms, intellectual debates, trying hard to get what he wants, that "work" concept, egotistical maniacs... no seriously. What do THEY have to brag about? Have they met HIM?!
Magic Capabilities: Magic isn't so much a practice with Connla as it is an innate talent. He can encourage flowers to bloom just by singing or wishing it, as he can help heal plants with his touch. His wings drip the essence of magic, for those who can see it, for that is partially how they keep him afloat. And illusions. For a fairy, he is average. He can make himself appear invisible, and he can cast basic illusions around himself and to alter his appearance. Beyond that, Connla isn't especially gifted. He's never bothered to inhance the talents he was born with for he is far too lazy to practice that boring stuff!
Personal and Family History: Connla is of the younger generation of his species. Born only a little over five hundred years ago, he is what the elves would see as a young thing. As far as fairies go.
In the days of Irish mythology, long ago, there is the legend of Connla and the beautiful fairy maiden. The Connla of lore is our Connla's grandfather. Lured to the world of fairies, the first Connla spent the remainder of his days with the beautiful maiden in the fairy land of Boadag. They had children, one of whom ended up being our Connla's mother, Myddvai. She was the baby of the family, and adored by her father to no end. When his life ended, because though extended he was still a mortal, she was heart broken. To honour his memory, she named her first born son Connla.
Her first born, and as it has been so far, only child was indeed Connla. He was raised in the area Myddvai and her fellow fairies lived in, Boadag. This area is mythical, and blessed with magic, and tucked deep in the forests of County Clare. Humans, for many years never penetrated the area, and only in recent times were the fairies reminded that they existed. Raised without knowledge of his father, for fairies are flighty creatures, Connla found his arrogant mother to be his role model. Years of spoiling turned Myddvai into somewhat of narcissist, and Connla in turn grew to be quite the same. Flitting about, admiring oneself, and spending hours playing with one's hair were the ways of life Connla was taught. Mind you, this is not so different from most other fairies, but Connla took it to the extreme. He spent little to no time fostering his talent for the nature aspect of things.
Fortunately, even when humans did break their world of isolation, the fairies were not desperate for help to repair damages to Danu's beautiful world. The humans came, and soon left after, for, it seemed that one entity had purchased the hundreds of acres of land surrounding and including their wooded haven. As it turned out, this entity was the group of elves who soon began Esras University. Astounded, because Elves had all but faded from memory, the fairies were drawn out of hiding by their curiosity. One of the first and foremost of the small clan residing in the Boadag haven (and by small, I mean less than one hundred) to venture to the elven run university was Connla. His curiosity and need to meet new people was just too great to allow otherwise.
When he returned, he brought word of the elves return, and stories he'd been told of their life underground. Being an envoy to the elves was wonderful! Everyone would sit around, attentions soley on him while he would relay tales, messages, and greetings. Perhaps they could have chosen someone better, for Connla often forgot details and botched stories. But no matter, because nothing was changed so badly as to cause ill relations between the two groups. For any species of such a lifespan though, change takes time. It took the fairies many years to bring themselves to venture out of their haven, and explore the forests and countryside nearby. But it was true, they were safe from humans destroying them and their homes, and they could roam about freely once more.
In years closer to the present, many of the fairies of Connla's small clan began to build homes out of the old place they'd lived. They met other fairies, and soon most of the ties to isolation were broken. And boy was Connla all for it. He set himself up a great little place near the school, and happily wandered about the grounds without a care in the world. Until the internet came.
Oh, then it was a different story. He begged, pleaded that the elves let him live on campus. And eventually they relented, one of the younger and more cheery of the professors allowing him to share his suite. And oh was Connla enthralled. He'd even managed to fenagle a laptop from those silly uptight elves. Glorious glorious. He'd gotten an account for buying doll's clothes offline, they even fit him perfectly, after a bit of searching to find the right kinds. And he was set. All the things Connla could ever need is at his disposal, and oh it is heavenly.
