Who: Aubrey, Dean Flaithri, Brennus, Aiden and Police Officers! When: January 16- 24, 2005 Where: Esras; Police Station in Ennis
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Aeriwvynne spent her last night in the sick wing propped up on several pillows with the lamp beside the bed turned on as she fingered through a video game guide, her casted leg resting atop a pillow as well. It was late, but there was no one else in the room, so she could stay up as late as she pleased reading. Her crutches had arrived and rested against the small table near the bed, where the flowers she had recieved sat in water.
A few moments later, both Rian and Brennus appeared in the doorway. Rian's eyes were dark and clouded, and Brennus looked calm, though not in the best of moods. "Ah... Ms. Devon... the police are here to see you again." Rian said hesitantly. He did not like that the humans were persecuting on of his subjects in least. Brennus remained silent, deferring to Rian. "It seems they wish to take you ah... in for a bit..." Behind Rian soon appeared detective Sheridan and another officer. Donovan and a small team had been dispatched with a warrant to rifle through her things.
The blonde girl blinked, a bit surprised as the King and Brennus walked in, and even moreso at the police that followed. "Ah.. well.. It's not like I can really run away." She mentioned, closing the magazine she had been reading. She blinked, tilting her head around, noting the other one (the one that looked like mulder) was absent. Aeri blinked. "Haven't you guys talked to me enough? I told you everything I know.."
Sheridan looked at her with a stern expression. "Yes, well we're putting you under arrest Ms. Devon. New evidence has come to light in the case, implicating you." Rian seemed to be helpless at the moment, as the other officer approached the stricken girl and began a reading of her rights and the other usual formalities.
The girl blinked and said nothing, staring up at the officer as he read her her rights. "Ah.. I see?" She turned her face to Rian and Brennus, then back to the officers. They couldn't possibly be arresting her- she did nothing wrong.. she didn't kill Byron. "Any particular reason why I'm being arrested?"
"You're being arrested for the murder of Byron Shaughnessy." The arresting officer said simply, heavy Irish accent slurring his words some. Quietly, Rian said "I think that this is not neccessary.... but if it is, at least let me send for her brother?" Rian looked to Brennus, and dispatched him to fetch the elder elf.
"Ah.. see that would work if I actually did it." She said simply, still quite shocked and not really thinking straight. "Nonono! Don't fetch Aiden- he'll flip out!" She yelped upon turning to Rian. "And you'll wake him up..." She found herself being moved from the bed, and she reached out for her crutches.
Brennus hesitated, eyeing Rian unsurely. "You'll need guidance Ms. Devon..." He said quietly. "That, and he will fetch you a lawyer, to clear this whole mess up." Within a moment, Brennus had been sent off, nonetheless.
The girl grimaced and then sighed. She didn't want her brother involved in this mess- especially since now he would know exactly who she had been fooling around with. She had managed to keep it a secret from him before.. She held up the palms of her hands in resignation, sliding the crutches under her arms and hobbling away from the bed. "This week just gets better and better." She said aloud. "Where's the other one?" She blinked, asking Sheridon without a second thought.
"Excuse me?" He wondered of her, quite indignant in tonality. Muttering something to the other officer, the two flanked her. "We'll be taking you to Ennis until your hearing. I suggest you tell your brother to send your lawyer there."
The girl ignored his last comment. "You know, the quiet one that's always with you." She said, peering around as if he would spring from the ground or something before turning back to Rian. "I guess.. when my brother gets here ask him to drive to Ennis?"
Rian nodded. "I will do that, and if you would like, have Brennus accompany him?" However, they weren't allowed to chat it up for very long, because the officers were ushering her out. Halfway down the hall though, came detective Donovan and two other officers, all three in latex gloves. They carried random bags of evidence from the direction of her bedroom. Specifically, one old-styled leatherbound diary.
The girl hobbled along on her crutches, rushed by the officers. She blinked seeing the diary. "AH!" Her face turned bright red and she tried to rush forward to catch them and her book, but she neglected to remember that she had a broken leg and fell with a hard smack onto the stone floor, wooden crutches clattering slightly. DAMN broken LEG.
Rian's eyes went wide, and he rushed forward to catch her. Though he couldn't make it, there was a soft breeze that fluttered, relaxing her fall. The gifted elf did his best to be sure that it went unnoticed by the officers, but still managed to cushion her. Taking several steps forward, he beat the cops to the punch, and did his best to help her back up. "Ms. Devon, please try and be more careful..." He said quietly.
Taken aback, Donovan had retreated several steps, and kept the book out of reach. "This, Captain Sheridan, is evidence you should see..."
The girl was too busy being shocked and embarassed to realize she was still on the floor. "That's private." She whispered, clenching her hands into fists as she was raised back to her feet and her crutches returned to her. She remained standing this time, though her shoulders were shaking. Not even her own thoughts were sacred- well.. at least she had enough sense not to write anything about elves in a book that could be found- but it did have rather personal information...
Rian's hands were warm, as he tried to calm his subject as best he could. "Do not worry Ms. Devon. I promise you we'll work this all out. Your brother will be sure to meet you as soon as possibly, I'm sure..." Internally, he prayed to the Goddess that she left no word of elves in it. If she did, they were most certainly in for a rough ride.
She nodded. "Thank you, Dean." She whispered as she was escorted away by the police, hobbling along with her casted leg. She said absolutely nothing, mouth set into a solemn line. She didn't think getting herself involved with a human would bring this much trouble. Damnit, as much as she was pissed at Byron, why the hell did he have to go and die, and leave her with this mess to clean up?!
Rather gruffly, Sheridan escorted her to her to the waiting patrol car, and then they headed for Ennis. She was in the back, while Sheridan and Donovan road up front, and the other officers took the other car.
Aeri sighed as she was loaded up in the back of the cop car, frowning as she set down her crutches and Sheridon advanced with the cuffs. She drew back her hands sharply, bringing up her knee to block the way to her arms. "Ah.. what are those made of?" She hazarded to ask, knowing full well the man was already irritated with her.
Sheridan rolled his eyes. "They're made of steel. Stainless steel, should you be so curious." He was ready to cuff her, just to spite her, though it really wasn't neccessary in her condition. The broken leg would certainly impair her from going anywhere fast.
Ah.. whew. Steel wasn't so bad.. it was diluted iron, not to the point where it bothered her. She always ended up having to use white gold or titanium for her peircings because it irritated her skin... She lowered her leg and her wrists so that the man could cuff her if she wished. "So- how long am I going to be here?" She asked to Donovan, leaning over close to the bars that seperated the backseat from the front of the car.
Donovan turned back to her, and his words came out slowly and measured. He was flattered by attention from such a pretty girl, but after reading her diary, he had decided that maybe she was a lot too crazy to even bother with. "Erm... I don't know. At least until Monday, and from there, it depends on whatever your lawyer does and your bail hearing."
The g irl pursed her lips, not liking the idea of spending so long in a jailcell. She leaned back onto the seat, crossing her long legs at the knees with her newly cuffed hands in front of her. It itched a little and she tried to rub it on the cushion of the chair to scratch a little. It would be a long ride back to Ennis, might as well try to make conversation. Or if they didn't talk to her- she could always hum and sing to herself. "How old are you?" She blinked, tilting her head to the side as Sheridon sat back in the car after closing the door.
Sheridan cut off Donovan before he even had the chance to respond. "That is none of your concern Ms. Devon."
Aubrey frowned, sticking out her tongue at Sheridon and saying something unsavory under her breath in a language none of them would recognize. She flopped backwards onto the uncomfortable backseat. "Do you guys have a radio? If you aren't going to talk to me- will you let me listen to music? Or something?" She asked, poking a bare foot (the uncasted one-she was dragged out of bed), sandal on the floor, at the bars seperating them.
Donovan sunk down in his seat, uncomfortable with both Sheridan's mood, and Aubrey's actions. Sheridan meanwhile muttered his own unsavory things. A moment later, he demanded of her "If we do, will you be quiet the rest of the way?" His tone was brash and quite obviously irritated.
"Quite possibly." She grinned brighty at the older officer. "Or I could sing for you guys- my brother says I'm a good singer but he could be lying.." She blinked, looking away for a moment, dropping her foot back onto the floor. "Is he sick?" She asked, noting Donovan slinking down into the seat. "And do I get my stuff back once you guys figure out that I didn't do anything?"
"First off, I would remind you that you can also be charged with any number of minor offenses, including attempts to impede investigation. Second, no. He is not sick. And third, if they are not kept as evidence, then yes, they are returned." His tone was taking on an irritable edge, and becomming more and more irritable with each word.
"How is singing impeding your investigation?" She sat up in the seat, bouncing to the middle so she could look happily between the two, leaning her chin on the cushion, nose almost against the thick cross barring. "Oh well." She leaned back on the seat and scooted over to the right side, leaning over and slinking down so she could look up at the stars, falling silence for a good long while. She did start singing softly to herself eventually, growing bored with the monotony of the car ride, voice barely above a whisper and the words unable to be made out by human ears, if they could hear them at all (since shes behind donovan- he might, but im not sure how good his hearing is). She rubbed her wrists a bit more vigorously on the seat- they were starting to get red and irritated.
For the rest of the ride, Sheridan was morbidly silent. Occasionally his counterpart would cough, but it only heightened the temperature of awkward in the air.
Aubrey practically clawed at the car once they had arrived at the police station in ennis, by now her wrists feeling very sore and red, leaning up against the door in hopes it would open faster. She could feel her hands starting to twitch a bit. She didn't mention this pain, however, knowing if she said anything Sheridon would possibly leave the cuffs on her longer as payback.
Before Donovan was even able to gather up all his things, Sheridan was at the ready to be the one to escort Aubrey. She'd been way to obnoxious towards the younger officer, and Sheridan didn't want any funny business. He waited for her to get assembled with the crutches, being kind enough to remove the cuffs at least.
She looked quite relieved once the cuffs came off, her wrists red and blistered from the prolonged exposure before she grabbed her crutches and pulled herself from the car, sliding them under her arms. She said nothing to him, pink hair falling around her face as she allowed herself to be led by Sheridon. Oh well, she would have to deal with the old fart instead of the nice, cute younger guy. Just her luck.
Donovan spent his time filling out forms, and filing away evidence while they checked in. Aubrey was required to remove most of her personal belongings before being condemned to a cell in the holding area of the precint. Fortunately for her, there were no other women currently incarcerated.
And thus the girl found herself stripped of peircings, jewelry and anything else she happened to be wearing that wasnt necessary. She sighed as she sat down on the bench in the holding area, leaning her head back against the wall, rubbing her blistered wrists. She would cover them up but that would be all too obvious.. It was cold- she had left in her small sleeping shorts and a tank top, but out of pride she didn't say anything to Sheridon. They would probably be asking her questions again, or something. They couldn't keep her locked up in here forever...
Hungry wasn't even the word for it. Starving was more like it. Aeri had been locked up for six days. Six days. She hadn't even been able to speak with her brother. She just sat, and waited. She was starting to grow paniced and even slightly neurotic, trapped without any form of plant life, the air growing stale and suffocating around her. She had her arms around her knees, cast still on her legs, crutches discarded. A shower. She desperately wanted one. Out of desperation, unconciously she had bid at the plants just under the cement, causing small blades of grass and plants to push up through the cracks and corners of the cement around where she sat. They gave her some comfort...
Aiden had been relieved at the phone call from the lawyer, and immediately set out with the Dean to Ennis. They had picked up the lawyer on the way, and had just arrived at the police station, the older elf beside himself in worry and anticipation.
Rian was the picture of calm and cool. Years of dealing with humans forcing his people into less than pleasant conditions had helped the King to perfect his facade of patience. Following the elven lawyer and Aiden into the station, Rian observed. What a hellish little place. It smelled of old building and of the drunks staying the night in the various cells down one wing. Doing his best to hide his distaste of the smell, he quietly followed Aiden.
By now, the officers would have let her out of the cell, if only because all rights of keeping her under arrest had been buried by the very irritated judge.
Aiden looked around, his eyepatch firmly over his eye. He followed the lawyers back with the Dean, peering around the station, letting the elf do the talking. He was afraid if he opened his mouth he would only have very angry things to say. All Aeri could think about was how much she desperately wanted a shower and some food. Shower first. She felt filthy, her natural luminescense gone. She didn't even feel like an elf anymore- she felt low, worse than a human. But she waited silently, arms wrapped around her knees against the wall. She had tried to appeal to Donovan for sympathy, but after the first three days of failure, she had stopped awknowledging they were even speaking to her.
Rian eyed the dingy place, and suppressed a shudder. Human structures were hideous, especially ones like this, that hadn't a touch of elven beauty like the university did. Donovan was nowhere to be found, nor was Sheridan. More than likely they were hiding off somewhere in shameful idiocy. Instead, it was a sweet young female officer who fetched Aubrey from the back waiting room. "Miss Devon? The people to take you home are here..." She felt bad for the young girl, who'd been the silent object of stares and ridcules by most of the men on the force.
The girl looked up slowly from staring out into space, still in the scant sleepclothes she had been dragged out with several days prior. She stared at the police girl as if she was speaking a foreign language before her body moved. She picked up her crutches and nodded, sliding them under her arms and hobbling along. She felt like a caged animal, a circus freak the way these human men taunted her, stared at her, teased her and laughed at her expense.
Rian shifted nervously, and as he saw the young girl make her way out, his heart fell to the floor. There was a rather noticable cold breeze that intensified in the room as the elemental elf did his best to control his temper. That anyone could treat one of the Dannan this was was infuriating!
Aiden rested a hand on Rian's shoulder before he pushed past him gently, slipping between the officers and desks to meet Aeri, scooping the girl up easily into his arms. "I was so worried." He sighed, ignoring that she hadn't showered in days, just glad to have his sister returned to him. He nodded thanks to the female officer and helped his sister to where Rian and the lawyer were.
Rian scooped up the crutches dangling from the girl's hands, and smiled sweetly. It was the morning time on Thursday, because Aiden wasn't going to waste a second, and neither did his lawyer. "Your brother and I have arranged for you to spend several hours in a local spa today, and then we're taking you out for dinner before we return home. You certainly deserve it after the treatment you recieved here." His voice was laced with anger and the end of the little monologue was directed towards the few male officers remaining.
She nodded slowly, clutching on tightly to her brother beside her for support. Although his face was smiling, he was seething with anger at his sister's treatment just below the surface. "Yes, you're hungry, aren't you?" He smiled, his voice calm and controlled. The girl nodded slowly, Not wanting to test her weak voice. She wished to be able to give the Dean a hug, but refrained out of self conciousness for the way she was dressed and the fact she hadn't bathed in so long.
Aiden pushed away for a moment, unbuttoning his long wool coat and helping his sister into it, to both cover up what little she had on, and to keep her from continuing to freeze. "Did you speak to the officers who arrested her? What about her possessions?" He said to the lawyer.
Rian did his best to ease tensions. "And I think, an expenses paid by your Dean and Brother shopping trip and brunch trip should come before anything else, yes? We'll get you two of one outfit, so you can get rid of it once you get to the spa?" He offered, remaining politely out of Aiden's conversation.
"Oh trust me Aiden, the officers are certainly being disciplined for the ergregious err in judgement. Unfortunately, her possessions were legally obtained with a warrant, even if her arrest was not, and the prosecution still wants the diary and few other things until they are done the case..." The elvish man said to his fellow, doing his best to stay professional. This botched mess just had the lawman infuriated.
Aeri remained clutched to her brother's arm. "Thank you.." She managed to say, feeling strained and weak from the lack of food. "But.. I really would like a shower. I feel filthy." She whispered. Aiden looked to Rian, arching his brows. He didn't really blame her for that one.
"I hope I get my things back soon." She said softly, though she shivered. She could still feel the men's eyes on her. "Can we leave.. please..?" She pleaded softly.
Rian nodded to Aiden. It was beyond time to go for the poor girl. She was cold, miserable, and violated unfairly. He really couldn't blame her for wanting to leave as soon as possible.
Aiden nodded, slipping an arm around the girl to help her walk out of the station. She kept her head down, hoping her long hair would sheild her face from view, ashamed. "I brought the car- it's just outside. Sir, would you mind splitting up? I may go get her new clothes if you would escort her to someplace where she can bathe?" He looked gratefully to the lawyer. "And thank you very much for all you've done."
Rian nodded. "I think, you can fetch her clothes, and I will rent a nice hotel room for the day and evening, so she can relax, and go home tomorrow. And then perhaps she can shower, and then head to have her day of spoiling and whatnot before dinner? Well... head off after I order in a big lunch?" If nothing else, Rian wanted to take of the girl. In some distant way they were related, and regardless of that even, she was one of the Dannan.
Aiden nodded, opening the car door to let his sister slip inside. She leaned back against the soft interior as if it was the first time in a very long time. "Thank you, sir." Aiden smiled, opening the passenger door for the Dean before going around to the drivers side, having left the door beside Aeri open for the lawyer. "Does that sound good to you, Aeri?" He smiled back at her.
A slow smile came upon her face and she nodded. It was alright- she could put this behind her. She was here, among her own people, among people that cared for her. "That sounds nice to me."
Rian slipped into the passenger side. As the car started, he did his best to remain under control, but the unnatural heat and energy the car gave off bothered him. His hand gripped the armrest so tight, his knuckles were white. The lawyer had stayed behind to finish up matters, so Rian didn't mind looking a little at unease in front of the siblings.
Aiden smiled gently at the King. "Please do relax sir. You'll get used to it, but we're really quite safe in here." He responded, starting up the engine and backing out slowly from the space. To say Aiden was a cautious driver was an understatement, but Aeri was too unsettled to bother backseat driving this time.
"Thank you for coming to get me." She said after a while, drawing her knees to her chest.
Rian looked extremly uncomfortable and bothered, a feeling that had only subsided earlier about five minutes from the police station. And that wasn't because he got used to it, it was because he knew it would be over soon.
Aiden pulled into a nice inn he knew of, parking behind it and stepping out of the car, helping his sister out and handing her her crutches before opening the door for Rian, if he hadn't stepped out already. "I'll leave you to her, Sir." He smiled gently before leaning down to kiss his sister's brow. "I will get you some new clothes, alright? I'll be back very soon- then we will take you out to eat."
Aeri had almost forgotten what it was like to be hungry. Except that her stomache wanted to eat itself at the thought of food.
Rian smiled, and helped the girl out of the car, after Aiden had let him out of the damned thing. Smiling he said "And we'll give you some in advance, so you don't get ill and overwhelmed." He handed her a granola bar as a good way to start, and the natural kind, not some nasty boxed sort. Leading the way, they checked into the nicest of rooms the place could offer, and took the elevator up. Thank heavens for the elevator, though it too made Rian sick just going up one floor in the thing.
Aeri followed as she watched her brother get back in the car and drive to the shopping district, hobbling along while trying to eat the granola bar. Just holding it in her hands made her mouth water. She took the moment while he was checking in to devour it, following Rian up to the room. God, she must look like a cheap whore. With a broken leg. "I'm sorry to cause so much trouble, sir... I .. didn't write anything about.. us in that diary."
Rian nodded. "I know... The lawyer the defense has is just as privileged to look at evidence as the prosecution. She assured me there were no threats...." He smiled kindly, and took a much needed seat on one of the beds. The short car ride and the elevator up had made his legs wobbly. "When you shower, there's plenty of towels and a nice big terrycloth robe you can wrap up in... or so they informed me. That and a whole bunch of shampoos and such."
"Thank you.. I desperately wanted to take a shower." She responded, looking quite relieved at the sight of the room once the door had been opened. She peered around and nodded. "I'll be out soon." She managed a smile, hobbling her way to the restroom, closing the door slowly behind her. Dear god, a shower had never FELT so damn good! She could swore she stood under the water, just letting it soak her, for a good ten minutes before she began scrubbing herself out, surprised at the dark water that drained out. She scrubbed her skin almost raw, feeling filthy. At last she emerged, feeling clean and refreshed, swrapped up in that promised terrycloth robe.
Rian tried not to imagine how difficult showering with one leg hanging out of the tub would be. However, he figured she would be out in a good while, and so he laid back, resting. The last week, he, Aiden, and many of the other important elves had done very little sleeping, and a whole lot of stressing out. The bed was comfortable, and it wasn't like he was going to watch the television box or something silly.
The girl peered out of the bathroom, hair back to its normal blonde, as she had to keep the appearance of the pink until she left the station. Her green eyes wandered to the King flopped out over the bed. She slid her crutches under her arms and hobbled over. "Are you tired, Sir?" She asked, brows knit, green eyes full of concern. She set down the crutches, sitting down a bit aways from him on the bed. God, it felt FABULOUS.
"Ah just a bit, though not nearly so much as I'm sure you are. Everyone has been very worried over you, especially your brother. So sleep has been on the side of less for the last few days." He murmured, though not sleepily. Mind you he didn't sit up either. It was comfortable!
She nodded, leaning back on one hand to regard the man. He seemed so much more... normal this way. Not in his formal robes, not in his office or his ornate bedroom, surrounding by rich things and his secretary. He didnt have the air of Kinglyness while lounging on the bed. It was.. c omforting. She supposed he was just a man after all. "I'm sorry to have worried you all so much. My brother looks half-dead. I think you both need to go to the spa as well."
"Ah, strange treatments from humans aren't exactly something I'm partial too. Getting a few hours of time to lie around, with the windows open and a cool breeze... those will serve me best. Though I must agree, your brother needs a good bit of rest and relaxing. He's so frazzled it's worrysome..."
The girl grinned. "It's fun. You have someone massage you, relax you.. I like it when I get my hair brushed." She laughed gently, the first laugh she'd had in a while. "Your hair is very long, I'm sure it's nice to brush... as for Aiden. He worries over me much too much. He is very kind.. I am lucky to have him."
"Ah... it isn't too much. It is the right amount for someone who loves and cares for you as deeply as your brother does." Rian looked so serene, illusioned dropped to reveal his incredibly long platinum hair and pointy ears. The only reason he had to illusion his hair is that it was just unnatural for a human to have hair cascading nearly to their knees. Especially men.
Aeri watched the hair reveal itself in a bit of shock and amazement. "Wow." She gasped, her curiosity allowing her to crawl forward to take a long strand between her fingers. "You weren't lying when you said your hair was longer than people think."
Laughing softly, he said "It's been a very long time since I have been able to let my illusions drop. Only in private, or underground can I. And then, only after I'm sufficiently assured that no one will come waltzing in."
"I hope one day we won't have to keep them up all the time." She sighed, dropping the lock of hair back onto the bed, watching the white blonde locks waving over the soft matress. She leaned back against the headboard, propping up a pillow under her back. "How is Brennus?"
"Brennus was rather preturbed by the police arresting you, though he commented little. Otherwise, he is the same quiet creature as always." Rian smiled fondly to himself as he spoke of the other.
Aeri smiled as she observed the fond look on the man's face. She didn't have much time for reflection, as there was a knock on the door. "Ah, Aeri, Sir?" Came the familiar voice of Aiden, arms too laden with bags of clothing and some food to pull otu his keycard and open the door.
Rian sat up some, instinctively letting illusions fall into place for when the door was opened. Rian swung his legs off the bed, realizing the girl had just gotten comfortable and was somewhat incapacitated.
Aeri was hoping she didnt have to hobble across the room to answer the door for her brother, though she would have should Rian have remained reposed. Aiden waited patiently, rewarded eventually with the opening of the door. He smiled gently at the King before slipping into the room. "I brought some fresh fruit to eat.. grapes.. apples.. a banana. And some clothes for you, Aeri." The blonde perked up, watching Aiden curiously as he ventured closer, setting out the clothes he had picked. More conservative than she would have picked, but nice and rather warm looking either way.
Rian closed the door, satisfied only when he heard the click of the electronic lock sound the door's complete shutting. "Ah, I'm rather good right now, but you two are more than welcome to have what you'd like." Sitting on the other bed from the two, Rian watched the siblings quietly.
Aiden quite casually picked up an article, pressing it up to his sister's shoulders, letting it drape down over her robe. "Ah.. good it looks the right size. I wasn't quite sure what you wore, so I was forced to guestimate. My apologies." He smiled before bringing out the peices one by one for her approval. A knee length skirt. Underskirt. Undergarments he did not hold up, for privacy sake. An off-white wool peacoat and a silk blouse. "DO you need help changing?" He asked, indicating to her broken leg. He didn't want her hopping around and falling over.
Aeri gathered up the articles back into their bag beofre standing up, kissing Aiden's forhead and slipping the crutches on, clasping the bag. "It's ok. I'll be right back." And she dissapeared into the bathroom to change. Aiden remained stoic for a moment before he fell backwards onto the bed. "Oh, god. I was so worried."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ and that's all we played out :3 it can be assumed they spa-ed, shopped and had much ennis joy before returning to esras.
