Aeriwvynne had an ingenious plot- or, at least, the selkies did. It was so funny, in fact, that she had decided to play along. Earlier in the evening, Aeri had sent left a message on Dara's answering machine in his home to meet her later that night for dinner out on the grassy knoll. She had promised him Guiness and cajun. Glancing at her watch, she packed up the dinner and headed out to the grass, not seeing hide nor hair of her accomplices. At least they were good at hiding.
He thought it was a little unusual for the invitation to be delivered in such a way. Aeri usually tracked him down to speak to him in person. While wandering out to the spot in question, hands tucked in the pockets of the leather coat she had made him last year, he lit himself one of his cigarettes and wondered.
The blonde lugged the basket full of food out to the hill, wooden sandals flapping against her heels. When she caught sight of Dara, she waved one arm over her head to signal her arrival. "Angus!" She called out, trotting over and setting her basket down since it was quite heavy. "I'm glad you got my message- I wasn't sure if you would come.." The elf wrung her hands together sheepishly. It had been a long while since she had actually spoken to the man since he turned her down. It was a little strange, really.
He quirked an eyebrow, both at her words and her nervous demeanor. "Speaking of, why didn't you just track me down like you usually do?"
Her face turned a little red. "I .. was a little embarassed to be chasing you around, so I just left a message.." She responded, lacing her hands together behind her back. It was kind of cute that he was wearing the jacket she made... but it would be a shame if it got paint on it... "Isn't it too warm to be wearing that?" She nodded towards her creation.
"Openly wearing a firearm makes people nervous," Dara replied with a shrug as he settled down to sit.
"But you're a security guard.. isn't that.. expected?" Aeri responded, sitting down beside Dara, tucking her hands under her to flatten her skirt.
"Only when I'm on duty." He idly scratched at his jaw and took a look around himself.
She remained silent for a few moments before reaching over to the basket beside her and removing a bottle of Guiness and holding it out to the older elf. She felt incredibly nervous, not just because she was about to aid in the pulling of a prank, but also due to her unrequited love. Oh well, she could go back to her near-avoidance once the Selkies broke up the party. "Here."
"Thanks," he replied, taking the bottle and cracking it open in one quick, smooth motion. "So. Ready for school?" he asked wryly once he took a swallow of beer.
"Not really... but I'll survive. I have to retake all my classes since I had my semester erased. So I'll probably be bored." Shelooked away, pulling a bottle for herself, twisting off the top and holding it between her fingers. This was.. weird. But the selkies were waiting until they were good and comfortable before attacking. The blonde had made sure to wear something less... liked, since she too would be getting pranked along with Dara.
"Knock on wood," he muttered, taking another gulp from the bottle.
The girl remained silent. He didn't really seem to be enjoying this, so she pulled out the dinner she had cooked, seperated into two containers. She held one out to Dara without looking at him.
"Thanks," he repeated as he took it from her and opened it. "You're awfully quiet. You're usually more talkative."
The blonde would have thought her reasons for being so quiet were quite obvious- unless what had happened between them so long ago meant absolutely nothing. "Am I?" She blinked, running her fingers through her long hair.
"Uh huh," he said whilst inspecting the food in question.
"I didn't poison it." She said, opening her own container of food and lifting her fork. She knew very well many of the elves related her to her mother. "I guess I'm just not used to doing this anymore." They used to sit on the knoll and talk or eat frequently, but since their incident, she barely spoke to the man, especially since her time was monopolized by Fachtna.
"I was just seeing what you made," he replied, giving her a sidelong look, then taking up a fork and beginning to eat in his usual ravenous fashion. At her other comment, he simply nodded mutely.
The blonde said nothing, only started to eat her own meal. This was rather torturous, she thought, and was rather glad she had given him about a two feet of distance before sitting down. At least the food was yummy. But she had enough of being slowly tortured, sitting beside her old flame(on her part) "I hope it's not too spicey." She commented, tipping off the fairy above with the code phrase.
Connla suppressed a giggle. Taking heed of Aeri's words, the little fairy gripped two cups full of latex paint, one orange, and one navy blue and flitted his wings. He darted forward from the tree just an inch or two without the slightest rustling of leaves. With two heaving motions the paint was poured forth from the cups right onto Dara's scarred head. Thankfully protected by Aeri's strong illusion magic, he darted backwards, placed the cups in a tree nook to hide evidence, and continued his backwards flight away from the scene of the crime.
Dara sat for a few seconds, stunned silence pouring forth from him. He then slowly looked up. Seeing no one, he snarled, sounding something like a humanoid lion, looked around furiously, and then began climbing up the tree to find something.
After a long moment of silence, Aeri gasped, cover now in blue paint. She stared down at her ruined shirt and skirt, her food covered in paint as well. "God.. DAMNIT!" She yelled. She made sure Connla had gotten away before dropping her illusion magic over him and setting aside her food. The blonde began to cry. "Why do people hate me!" She exclaimed. Well, it was true- people did hate her. But it was just part of the act- well, most of it. She didn't mind thinking of her frustration coming out in her tears. More authentic if it was things that really bothered her like.. I dunno, being pushed aside.
After tearing around the limbs of the tree for a long while, Dara climbed to the top and began to lower himself down the trunk in a thorough investigation of any and all nooks and crannies that it contained. If they were small, he'd look around to make sure no one was watching, then widened them sufficiently for him to see within them, returning them to their original state when finished. Thanks to his attention to detail, he found the two cups used within the nook that was smaller than most, if not all, of the human-sized inhabitants' arms on the campus. He tossed them to the ground in disgust, snarling again, and dropped down into a combat-ready crouch, just looking for a suspect to maul.
Aeri just continued to cry, dropping down her food and trying to wipe the paint off her outfit. She looked horrible, she was sure. Damnit. At least she wasn't too fond of the clothes she was wearing.
He lay in wait like a hidden predator, slowly scanning his surroundings for likely prey. Only after some long minutes did he finally stand and take stock of the girl nearby.
Aeri, by the time Dara had come to his senses, had left the basket and food and was walking dejectedly back to her dorm rooms, clothes splotched in latex paint.
With a grunt, the head of security gathered up the abandoned picnic gear and followed along behind Aeri.
It didn't take the man alot to catch up with the blonde, looking quite upset, face red in anger and frustration. She remained silent, though she matched Dara's pace once he caught up with her
"Thoughts?" he asked without looking at her, eyes straight ahead.
"I'm really fucking pissed." She responded, looking fiercly at the head of security. "And I want to take a shower and change."
"I meant about who might be responsible," he said, holding up the two cups he found.
The blonde looked at the cups. "I've got many enemies, and so do you. I couldn't even begin to fathom." She growled in response. "You?"
"I found them deep in a hole in the tree that a normal person couldn't fit their hand in," he said flatly.
"Maybe it's not a person." She respondly blandly. "We do live in an area surrounded by magical creatures who fear or despise us. I wouldn't be surprised. But there are thousands, if not tens or hundreds of thousands of possible culprits that all know about Esras."
"It seems rather petty for a fearful populace to lob paint," he remarked.
"Well, they are rather petty creatures, Dara." Aeri growled. "I wouldn't put it past any of them to take a crack shot at two elves if they thought they could get away with it."
Distastefully, angrilly shoving the door of the students wing open enough to have it slam loudly against the wall.
"If I wanted to tell an occupying force they were unwelcome, I'd snipe them, not make them messy." He simply eyed the door as he walked passed and shrugged.
"Do you REALLY think that it would be wise to .. hurt an elf and not just humilliate them?" She said, shoving her key into the lock after several painful looking misses. She opened the door before turning to look at the larger elf. "Coming?"
"If they bothered to try and humiliate them, they're obviously already idiots. Humiliation isn't what causes us to leave our claim." Upon being invited in, he shrugged and pointed to the door with his chin.
"Don't you know that they ARE idiots?" Aeri said, holding the door open to let Dara inside. "They're stupid, petty, immature, irresponsible fuck-tards and I want to hurt them alot." She hissed, closed the door behind him to rifle through her laundry closet and pull out a towel. Running it under the warm water in the sink, she threw it at the other elf to clean his face and hair as she grabbed her own and began wiping her face.
He snatched the towel from midair easily and began to wipe the paint from his body, grunting in response to her tirade.
She dropped the towel into the sink once she had wiped off her face and leaned over the sink. She remained silent, staring into the sink looking very upset. "I need to take a shower." She said blandly.
This got another shrug. "I should go and change," he muttered.
"Yeah, right.." She said, pushing off the sink. "I take it you know the way out, Dara?" Aeri said, peeling off her shirt before walking into the bathroom and closing the bathroom door. She half-smiled to herself once the door was closed, pushing aside her sentimentality to take in what had happened. She definately wanted those photos.
At that, the larger elf turned on his heel and left, mentally listing all the steps he'd have to take to investigate the matter. First on the list, irritatingly enough, was to inform the police.
