Aeri was quite pleased with herself, really, she thought as she shouldered her purse and made her way down to the security office- this time NOT being dragged by guards, but rather on her own. She stopped in front of Dara's door, taking a moment to check herself in her compact mirror before slipping it into her back pocket and knocking on his door.
Had Dara seen this, he probably would've had to stifle a fit of laughter. As it was, his voice merely sounded in its usual, "Enter," in response to the knock. She would find him seated behind his desk, powering off a computer monitor.
The blonde peeked her head in. "I'm not in trouble this time." She assured him, raising both hands up before sliding through the door, closing it behind her and walking to his desk. "Doing well?" She asked casually, observing the man behind the desk.
"If you were, I'd know," he replied dryly, turning in his seat to look at her fully. "You look like the cat that ate the canary."
Aeri's pretty face cracked into a wide grin. "Because I have something for you." She leaned forward hands resting on her hips. "Do you want to see it?"
Dara gave her a flat look, then quirked an eyebrow. "Is it a fairy in an airtight jar?"
Aeri sighed and flopped onto the chair in front of Dara's desk. "You take all the fun out of things, you realize that?" The blonde rolled her eyes, reaching into her louis vuitton and pulling out a glass jar and dropping it on his desk. Inside, was what to dara looked like a moving blur, but to Aeri was a quite corporeal spirit.
Aeri would quickly find that the chairs in front of said desk were extremely uncomfortable. "... okay, a fairy in a sealed, but not air tight jar, doped up on methamphetamines."
She wriggled in the chair. "These chairs blow." Aeri frowned, leaning forward to rest her elbows on his desk. "No, it's a spirit. And it follows around my roommate."
"The point is to make the person sitting in them even more uncomfortable than they already are," he informed without missing a beat. "A spirit. Riiight. And by roommate I take it you mean the American that writes those obnoxious journal entries in... what the hell kind of babble is that, anyway?"
"And you want to make me uncomfortable by having me meet you in your office instead of your apartment?" She arched a brow, crossing her arms over her chest. "The... Indian girl. She's a shaman of some kind. I read about them- they use spirits to heal. It would explain things.. there are many of them. Don't you think it's a bit ODD for a human to have control of such a creature?"
"Do you think Fachtna would like you coming to my quarters at all hours of the night?" He waited for her explanation, then shrugged. "More proof that the world falls apart without us to guide it."
The elf rolled her eyes. "I don't think he has a right to tell me I can't. It's not like I'm sleeping with you." She responded before reaching out to wiggle the jar with a finger. "So- you're not the least bit interested?"
"To be honest, we already knew she was a bit... off. At least this explains to me what, exactly, my plants meant by their babbling. I guess I should take the thing to someone to have it analyzed."
Aeri sat back in the chair, leaning her knees up against the edge of his desk. "Don't I feel useless. Just don't hurt it- I promised it I wouldn't harm it."
"I didn't plan on doing anything, though I have to point out that you wouldn't be hurting the thing."
The thing in the jar looked a bit frantic. "I guess not." She frowned, watching Dara's face. It really was a shame they weren't friends like they used to be. But everything had changed since he rejected her and she became Fachtna's prize. "She's seeing Niall, you know. And Dubhessa is seeing a human girl, Aikiko. Sentralia seems awfully suspicious of me, and not because I punched her friend." Aeri, despite all words otherwise, was not dumb. She was sure Sentra knew about their kind, but she had no proof.
No foundations other than her gut instinct.
All this seemingly gossipy information being fed to him suddenly made an eyebrow rise a bit. "The pairings are hard not to notice. They're pretty public. It's like they want to be punished," he growled. "You should keep an eye on the American girl. She may decide to start cracking, like the idiot you squabbled with began to."
"I guess I can do that." Aeri said quietly, her eyes on Dara. "I take it if I find anything suspicious, I should alert you, then?" She had to admit, the formality of this meeting dissapointed and depressed her. She reached down with one hand to idly toy with the platinum charm chain around her slender ankle.
"As per usual," he agreed, settling back in his chair. After a few moments of silence, he spoke again. "So. When are you going to saw off the ball and chain and actually visit people?"
"When I don't feel like I'm not wanted?" Aeri said, watching the spirit claw at the glass jaw and be rather.. distressed. The blonde empathized with the little spirit- she felt like that sometime. In reality, she really didn't want to go home today, to either 'home'. So she stalled for time. "Who are you going to send this thing to?"
"Not sure," he said, giving the jar a flat look. He found himself having a sudden, irrational desire to toss a lit match in there. "Even with a fight every day, I doubt everyone on campus wants nothing to do with you."
"About 90 percent." The blonde tilted the jar to one side, causing the creature inside to panic more as she let the jar go and it wobbled on Dara's desk before stabalizing. Fachtna had refused to tell her where he had gone the day prior, so in retaliation, she had left without cleaning or cooking dinner. HA! Take that. "Sometimes I just think it's not worth it to attempt to socialize. My reputation preceeds me, really." Oh yes, the teacher fucker. Damn Sonora. "But I suppose I could go out and get some fresh air. Brendon and Lindsey want to take me to the beach, but it's getting a bit too cold for that." She rambled.
"So wear a one piece instead of two bits of string," he said dryly, lips twitching upward a bit.
Aeri gave the man a flat eyed look. "Was that really necessary?"
"You'd worry if I didn't say it," he informed with a shrug.
She sighed and rested her hand on her cheek. "Right. And what's wrong with two peice swim suits?" She was quite sure she wasn't getting too fat to wear one. She had worked so hard to keep in shape. "I don't see you going to the beach- can you swim?"
"Falling out of them, for starters," he goaded. "And yes, I can swim. I'm generally busy doing my job, though."
"Maybe you should take a break from work. And don't even act like you would mind if I fell out of my swimsuit." She purred, crossing her arms under her chest again, dropping her sandals on the floor to rest her feet on the edge of his desk. "Do you have a swimsuit?"
"I don't exactly get vacation time," he replied, not even bothering to dignify her other comment with a response. His eyes did a quick flick toward her legs as they were propped up, her chest as she made a point of pushing it out more, and then back to her face. "Nope. Don't need one."
It was Aeri's turn to raise an eyebrow. "Don't need one? What, you just jump in naked?" She laughed. The idea was kind of amusing. "I don't know if I want to force you to come swimming with me if you're going to go in your birthday suit."
"It wasn't us that came up with the idiotic idea of making clothes just for getting wet in," he pointed out wryly.
"And then you can get arrested for indecent exposure." She continued to laugh, eyeing the older elf. She hadn't ever seen him in the buff, but the mental image was entertaining.
"Or I could just not go to a commercial beach," he replied blandly.
"Or that." Aeri said slowly, tilting her head to the side to observe the man. "When do you get off work?" She asked, picking up the spirit jar and wiggling it a bit, bringing it up to her face to look at the creature inside. She reached into her purse and pulled out a grape from a bag of grapes for snacking and dropped one inside the jar to .. feed the hting.
He simply gave her a slightly confused look when she fed the captive creature. "Sometime after sundown. Why?"
"Do you want me to cook for you?" She offered, quite content to sit in Dara's office or out in the security wing until he was off work. She blinked as he saw his confused look. "It.. eats?"
He blinked in surprise at this. "Won't Fachtna be... annoyed?" he asked. He just sort of stared at the jar when she told him that the thing apparently consumed food.
That was the point. "Why would he be?" She watched the spirit start to consume the nutrients out of the grape she dropped in. She didn't want to get into more arguments, and didn't want to deal with him at the moment. He could fend for himself
"Because he's an irritable, possessive person?" he replied, tone sounding as if he was just hazarding a guess.
"Can we just leave it at I don't want to go home and am trying to find excuses to stay out?" She sighed before dropping another grape in the jar. She doubt Fachtna would actually try to find her. Unless he really was that hungry and didn;t want to fend for himself.
"Ah ha. I knew I was being used," he declared, smirking.
"Like you care that i'm using you. I'm going to feed you aren't i? Don't you enjoy my company?" She smiled.
"I dunno. I'm a little resentful of being used like that." Bullshit.
"Awww.. how can I make it up to you?" She purred, looking at him demurely, one hand on her shoulder, thought all she really wanted to do was crack up laughing.
"I'm not at liberty to discuss that," came his predictable response. Oi. Always with the sexual tension.
"Confidential information?" She purred, setting the jar back on the desk and pushing it towards Dara with her foot.
It was equally predictable that his eyes would drop to follow the motion. "Something like that," he remarked, smirking a little.
"I might just have to pry it out of you." Aeri grinned, relaxing in the chair.. or as much as she could, given how much it sucked. "Do you have a more comfortable seat? This one blows."
"Not in here, no. I have the best chair in the place." At that, he grinned. "I suppose you could drag one from the hallway."
"Damn right." She stood quickly, pushing the uncomfortable chair with her foot away from her before dragging in a chair from outside and dropping it in front of Dara's desk and reseating herself.
Dara merely settled back and watched her do all this lugging. "You must be bored."
"Yes. Entertain me." She grinned, proppering her feet back up on the edge of his desk. "Until you get off work, then I can cook for you."
At these words, he made a point of turning an exaggerated look out the window to see where the sun was hanging in the sky.
Aeri grinned, taking the opportunity to reach across his desk to pick up a paperweight and toy with it. "You should get off work early. And what did you do to my brother this time? You keep beating him up."
"That's not exactly something I can just pull out of my ass," he replied. At her question, he blinked. "Did he tell you I did something?"
"No, but he can't use his left arm for some reason- i thought you might have hit him too hard this time around." She said thoughtfully, rocking on the chair. "Make time go faster." She commanded of the older elf.
"I haven't laid a hand on him. Don't know what you're talking about," he said, probably sounding suspicious and not giving much of a shit. If she decided to erroneously believe he was the source of her brother's injury, that was probably for the best. As far as her request went, he sarcastically clapped his hands together and shrugged an eyebrow.
shes a dead shot: At the clap, Aeri used her magic to create an illusion over his window of the sun setting rapidly with a grin. Of course, it was still light outside, but why not induldge in the privacy of Dara's office.
At that, the elf facepalmed. "Urgh."
"Time to go home." She grinned broadly.
"Yeah. You try selling that to the king and all my staff. Go ahead."
Aeri looked serious for a moment and got up, half leaning out of the door before calling to the security guard at the front desk. "ANGUS IS GOING HOME EARLY NOW." She turned back inside. "Run for it!"
This got him to groan and actually let his head drop to impact with the desk.
The blonde laughed and closed the door, walking behind Dara's desk to flop onto his back to give him a hug. "It's okay, I'll stop bothering you now and let you.. finish your work or something." Didn't mean she was going to go home, just wait outside. Or.. flirt with the guard enough for him tog ive her his walkie talkie to bother Dara over the device.
"I'm sure," he muttered, voice muffled by his posture, tone entirely unbelieving.
Aeri didn't move. She rested her head on Dara's shoulder and remained silent for a few moments before. "Come on, you know you want to leave early and have me cook for you."
"Personal desire has nothing to do with professional duty," he rehearsed flatly whilst blindly reaching up to pat her arm.
Pat her arm indeed! "Why not? You should give into your desires once in a while." She whined slightly, arms dangling over his shoulders, though she was sure flopping her weight on Dara didn't phase him.
It didn't. "Not when it's a royally appointed duty."
"Damn you and you're .. workaholicism." Aeri sighed before pulling off the man's back. "Too bad there isn't a couch here or I could take a nap." An idea! "Can I go to your room and just wait for you there- I promise I won't like.. play with your swords or anything." She clasped her hands together and gave the man her best you-know-you-want-to-make-me-happy face. Or rather, please-don't-make-me-go-home face. With sugar on top.
He didn't even bother protesting, just fished around in a pocket for the key she needed. "You're a pain in the ass, sometimes," he pointed out with a distinct lack of bite.
Aeri took the key with a grin. "I know. It's part of my charm." She picked up her purse from the chair. "What do you want to eat?" She leaned on the edge of his desk, sliding the keyring around her middle finger, tucking it into her palm.
"Surprise me," he replied, finally straightening up in his chair.
"Will do. Work hard, and.. try not to .. hurt the spirit thingger, ok?" She purred, turning to move towards the door, making a hand motion to the jar.
He gave the jar a little poke, wondering what the hell he was going to do with it.
And at that the blonde, with a happy wave, dissapeared back into the hallway to invade Dara's rooms and make some food.... after taking a nap, of course.
Had Dara seen this, he probably would've had to stifle a fit of laughter. As it was, his voice merely sounded in its usual, "Enter," in response to the knock. She would find him seated behind his desk, powering off a computer monitor.
