Aiden was given a few days to recover before the grim security officer paid him a little visit. The past few days had Dara shrouded in an aura of quiet rage and vicious determination. Woe be to the person who he was forced to waste his time on. Late in the day, he stalked down the hall to the injured Danaan's quarters. Curtly brushing the two guards at his door aside, the massive elf swept the door open. His eyes made a quick scan of the room as he strode toward where Aiden lay.
Aiden had regained conciousness only earlier that day, and spent all of his time in bed, wishing her were dead. He had a dull, throbbing pain in his chest that would only really hurt sharply if he tried to move, like rolling over onto his side. It was a little disconcerting having this many people he didn't know in the room, including a medic to watch over him. HE really wanted to see his sister, who he knew would be fratic with worry, but the guard informed him no one would be allowed inside.
It was with surprise that he turned to the door, hopeful for a moment, only to find a very angry looking Dara. "Ah.. hello?"
"All hail the conquering hero," Dara said with an edge of sarcasm. "So. How many bodies this time?" With that, he looked for a chair he could drag up to the bed, so at least he could sit while they talked.
Aiden tried to laugh, but it was rather painful. "I try not to kill anymore. But I was hoping to get at least one of them.. but alas, they must know very much about me, because they knew to run. Unless you found some bodies.. I simply tried to get myself back home." He watched with his good eye as Dara found a chair and sat beside the bed.
"I didn't waste any time. You lit a hell of a fire. The fire crews have it mostly under control, though I have to say it's more proof that humans are panicky creatures. They ran around like chickens with their heads cut off when it started." He dropped into the chair he found with a sigh. "So. I'm guessing by your words there that you were attacked. Tell me about it."
Aiden sighed, rubbing his fingers into his temple. "Ah.. I apologize for the trouble, but they would have killed me if I hadn't set the place ablaze." He dropped his burned hands down to his sides. "I just knew I was being followed. When I ran I was chased and when I stopped I was confronted. I had not met the man before, and he did not state his intentions, only began attacking me. While he distracted me, presumably his partner shot me in the back. I should have thought there might have been a partner, but honestly, I had not sensed him. He was very well cloaked."
"Sounds like you were set up for an assassination. Gut instinct tells me your mother found out you broke in. Either Cillian didn't know, or it's pretty clear he's out to get you, too. Tell me what happened, exactly. All I found was you crumpled on the ground with an arrow to the chest, some gashes and some burns."
Aiden didn't like the idea that not only his mother, but his younger brother, were also his enemies. He had always known his mother had thought of him as useless, but he had hoped it wouldn't come down to this. "I went out for a walk, with my dog. I took the trails I normally do and I felt myself being followed. So I ran to get away from the school- I could feel his intentions were ill. When I confronted him, he faught me with water magic. He was a high level talent, so it was difficult to protect myself, but I was stronger than he was. Since he wasn't going to back down or surrender, I tried to kill him- but just as I was about to do so, I noticed too late the second assassin and was shot through the back with a hunting arrow. Since I could not see the second, I used a long range, area spell to attempt to get both of them- the one in front of me and the one I could not see, but they ran. And I ran the other way. No need to make myself a sitting target." The brown haired elf explained. Aiden has used the same spell to kill many a human back in their war days.
Dara frowned. "Either that was a hell of a talent, or you're getting rusty. You dropped a two mile wide fire bomb. You should think about brushing up on the art of war, Aiden. Anyway, can you describe your attackers and what kind of spellcraft they threw at you?"
Aiden threw a pillow at Dara, despite how much it ached him to do so. Falling back to the comfortable position, he thought. "I really had hoped I wouldn't have to go to war again. I'm old, I'de like a peaceful retirement."
Aiden rubbed his chin. "As for my attackers.. I did not see one, but the one I saw had very dark hair, blue eyes and.. facial hair. Short, stocky.. and he used ice talent."
Dara lazily swatted the pillow out of the air. "You're not much older than me, pal. I don't plan on retiring for a very, very long time." As for the description, that got a little frown out of him. "Sorcerers aren't exactly my specialty. That's not ringing any bells here."
"That's all I can come up with.. sorry. I didn't see the second attacker, I only know hes very good at illusion magic and a good marksman." Aiden sighed, rubbing his hand through his hair. "If I had any artistic talent, I would draw him for you. Pick him out of a line up?" He joked at the younger Danann.
"... I might be able to do something better, if you're willing to do it. I'll have to think about it for a while, though." He rubbed his eyes and sighed.
Aiden looked perplexed. "Like what?"
"I'll tell you more if it's a viable option. Anyway. Talk to me. Any predictions?"
"I'm of the opinion that my mother found out about my.. intrusion and decided I was much too useless to keep alive."
"I gathered that. Can you think of what to expect next?"
"Poison?" He laughed, though he was serious. "I don't think my mother, if it was her, is the type to give up so easily. Unless it really wasn't her.
"I don't know who else it would be, honestly. I put you under my protection, though, so poison's not going to be getting by us. I'd be more worried about that marksman."
Aiden nodded slowly, his eyes thoughtful. "Have you spoken to my sister and let her know I was alright?" The elf was rather hungry, and would have enjoyed some cooking, but he wasn't going to tell Dara that.
"I haven't had the opportunity. Things have been busy. I may be able to arrange to give her limited visitation rights, eventually."
Aiden sighed as he felt his stomach protest. "And my dog?" He wondered where Puck was. He remember the animal getting on the ATV, but passed out shortly afterwards. He didn't wake up until days later.
"Someone's been taking care of him. We can't afford to allow you to wander outside any time soon to walk him."
"Ah, thanks.." Take away all my forms of entertainment and companionship.. Aiden understood the safety risks, but.. his dog kept him company. He hoped they were feeding him correctly and walking him properly. Puck wasn't used to leashes... Aiden remained preoccupied, worrying about his dog and his sister.
Dara rolled his eyes. "When the medic says it's safe, I'll let the dog come back. Someone else will have to do the walking, though."
"Then you shall keep me company until my sister and dog are allowed back?" Aiden joked, though he was hopeful. Dara was really the only other person he was friends with who he was sure wasn't hitting on him. Relationships= bad.
"I don't have much free time, Aiden. At this point, if I'm awake, I'm probably conducting investigations. " He blew out a long sigh.
"You sadden me." He said, though he smiled as was customary. His default facial emotion was always a smile. "But alas, I hope I am not under a continual assassination threat- I have classes.."
"You'll be accompanied by a guard at all times."
"My own personal body guard? You know I don't know martial arts- how kind of you to grant me protection." He joked, in better spirits now that he could speak with someone.
"... uh huh. If you learn anything useful, let me know. Until then, I have to get back to my office." Saying that, he rose to his feet.
Aiden hid his frown. Damn, alone again. "Alright, I'll let you know."
"Thanks." With that, he turned on his heel and left.
